World Osteoporosis Day 2007
Novartis Brazil
Novartis Brazil partnered with FENAPCO (National Federation of Osteoporosis Patients Associations) on World Osteoporosis Day: Novartis sponsored events in Copacabana and Lagoa in Rio de Janeiro and Parque do Ibirapuera in São Paulo. More than 15,000 One- Minute Osteoporosis Risk Tests and 2500 T shirts were distributed. A press conference which generated excellent media coverage was also held.
Novartis Basel, Switzerland
Information material on osteoporosis was distributed at the Novartis campus, including at the Novartis restaurants and kiosks. Attention was drawn to the importance of calcium-rich foods (and free yogurts distributed). In all Novartis restaurants a special rich-calcium menu was provided. The company intranet included information about osteoporosis and the ‘Beat the Break’ theme, with a link to the IOF website and the IOF One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test.
Novartis Greece
Novartis was among the local sponsors of the Greek National Osteoporosis Patient Society. This society was exceptionally active in organizing various disease awareness activities for WOD in Athens and Thessaloniki and carried out what is perhaps the biggest WOD campaign ever held in Greece. Novartis is proud to have sponsored a significant part of the campaign; specifically, the poster campaign, the press conference in Athens, and the mass mailing of the Society's information leaflet. In addition, there was a Novartis corporate stand at the event in Thessaloniki.
World Osteoporosis Day 2006 activities at Basel headquarters, employees encouraged to take risk test
Novartis organized awareness activities for its employees at its Basel, Switzerland headquarters as well as in some 16 countries around the world. In Basel, posters were displayed on site from October 9th. Following an email to employees on October 12th, there was a daily poll on the Novartis Intranet, newsletter and post-it notes were distributed and articles appeared on both the intranet and in the employee magazine. On Monday, October 23, 2006, NASA astronaut Shannon Lucid was invited to speak about her missions in space and how astronauts in a weightless environment experience bone loss similar to that observed in osteoporosis. In keeping with the ‘Bone Appétit’ theme, special bone friendly menus were available in the canteen.
In December 2006, via intranet, Novartis employees were invited to visit the IOF website and complete the IOF One Minute Risk Test.
Novartis had also held World Osteoporosis Day activities in 2005, when an 'Osteobus' visited the campus and offered free DXA testing to employees that had completed the IOF One-Minute Risk Test.
