IOF President's Award
The IOF President's Award is presented every two years on the occasion of the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis. The award honors an individual who has made a significant and unstinting contribution to the advancement of the work of the IOF, through furthering one or more of the mission statements and/or goals of the Foundation. IOF members are invited to nominate candidates for the award. Its winner will be presented with a statuette, plus US$5,000 in prize money.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 award, to be presented at the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 2006 IOF President's AwardThe first winner of this prestigious award is Dr. Ghassan Maalouf, from, Lebanon. The award ceremonies were held during the 2006 IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis (IOF WCO) in Toronto, Canada. "It is truly fitting that the first IOF Presidents Award is being given to Dr. Ghassan Maalouf. He has worked tirelessly to broaden the membership of the IOF. He has been one of the most active members of the IOF Board and is a rare individual able to bring together members of patient societies, scientists and politicians," noted Professor Pierre Delmas, President, International Osteoporosis Foundation. |
Dr. Maalouf is an orthopaedic surgeon at Saint George Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon. Since the inception of IOF, he has served as a regional member of the IOF Board and is the Chairman of the IOF Board nominations working group. Dr. Maalouf is also the Chairman of the IOF Committee of Scientific Advisors Orthopaedic Surgeon Working Group and amongst his many representations for IOF, Dr. Maalouf serves as the IOF representative to the Bone & Joint Decade.
