IOF Strong Bones Academy
IOF members worldwide achieve great results, and this accomplishment is even more impressive when we consider that many IOF member societies are run by volunteers or by people who do not have specific training or experience in running a nonprofit organization. The next big step for many IOF members, therefore, is to improve their own professional skills in the fields of corporate structure and management, fundraising, communications, running patient support groups, and lobbying.
IOF created the
The training, which will be held under the project description
its two member societies: Perosi and Perwatusi. This event was a huge success.
Twenty-three people participated for the full three-day series of workshops, which were held in a hotel outside of Jakarta. The participants came from different parts of Indonesia; half of the participants were physicians and it is inspiring that these people chose to devote three days (and sometimes four and five days including travel) to improving their professional skills. The training included an intensive three-day, residential course for the executives of these two organizations and for members of their local branches which are located throughout the country.
If successful, and if funding can be found, IOF plans to expand this program to other countries.
Related to this initiative is the IOF-Novartis Strong Bones Academy Grant, a grant of US$ 14,000 awarded to each of three societies for the first time in 2007.
