World Osteoporosis Day 2005
‘Move it or Lose it’: The role of exercise in bone health
World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) 2005 was dedicated to exercise which plays an important role in building peak bone mass and in maintaining bone health, as well as in rehabilitation and preventing falls. Activities that where launched by IOF for WOD included the Invest in Your Bones report ‘Move it or Lose it’, a series of public service announcements and the world’s first Latin-beat osteoporosis song, Un Cuerpo Sano/A Healthy Body. The song, in Spanish and English, was written and performed by Erika Ender, a leading Latin pop singer. In addition, IOF held a ‘Beauties and the Bones’ press conference where seven beauty queens from four continents have appealed to young women to care for their bones by leading healthy life styles.
