MSD- World Osteoporosis Day Activities
Merck & Co. Inc. a gold sponsor of the 2007 World Osteoporosis Day, observed the day through a variety of different events throughout the world.
At Merck global headquarters in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, employees enjoyed calcium rich yogurt while learning about osteoporosis awareness through BMD heel testing, educational literature & panels and yoga demonstrations designed to help prevent osteoporosis. Furthermore, the day was observed in all 17 of the Merck US sites through bone healthy menus at all locations and an article in Merck's daily newsletter.
In Belgium, Merck sponsored BMD screenings in three major cities and sponsored a press event. South Africa sponsored a press event as well as articles in local medical journals. In Saudi Arabia, there was a televised press event that featured a lecture by Professor David Hosking, and a representative from the Saudi Ministry of Health. In Slovenia, various DTC activities were implemented to help raise patient awareness of the disease, as well as a partnership with the Slovene Patient Society and the Society of Family Physicians in alignment with a BMD screening campaign. Estonia developed an osteoporosis awareness campaign along with a media event, BMD screening and patient lectures. Additionally, the Merck subsidiary in Mexico sponsored a media event in a city park in which women were asked to paint their emotions about osteoporosis."
