Tetra Pak - World Osteoporosis Day Activities

Tetra Pak works with the IOF to promote the role milk and good nutrition play in protecting bone health in both developed and emerging nations. It has been a strong supporter of IOF's World Osteoporosis Day campaign, both as an IOF Global Gold Sponsor and in its support of global activities and events, having held more than 20 joint initiatives with local patient societies around the world (see below).

Below are brief descriptions of the World Osteoporosis Day events organized by Tetra Pak (often in cooperation with the national societies)  in Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sweden, Turkey:


Tetra Pak Brazil

Tetra Pak Brazil organized company internal activities and external events for the public in cooperation with FENAPCO.

Internally, a calcium-rich lunch was offered at both factory locations.

Publications and support materials were also produced for internal and external use:

  

On October 20 and 21st, Tetra Pak sponsored events for the general public in Sao Paulo at the Ibirapuera Park and in Rio de Janeiro at Rodrigo de freitas Lake and Copacabana Beach. Visitors at the stands received free copies of the new IOF One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test and the brochure 'Beat the Break'. They also received T-shirts specially created for World Osteoporosis Day.  

                                        

Tetra Pak also supported the 'Osteoporosis Walk' in Sao Paolo at which participants had the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of calcium and carried placards promoting milk consumption.

Media reports of both events appeared in newspapers and on TV broadcasts.

 


Tetra Pak Canada

Tetra Pak Canada again sponsored the "Chefs Challenge" as in 2006 . Held at the Steamwhistle Brewery by the CN Tower, some 400 people were in attendance. Gift bags featuring dairy products were offered.


Tetra Pak Indonesia

In Indonesia, World Osteoporosis Day was postponed  to coincide with Indonesia’s National Osteoporosis Day celebration on Sunday November 4th.

Tetra Pak Indonesia participated in cooperation with Fonterra Brands Indonesia, Ministry of Health, Perwatusi and Perosi (local IOF affiliates). National Osteoporosis Day was marked by a 5-km walk from the National Monument in Central Jakarta to the landmark 'Welcome Indonesia' circle and back. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mrs. Kristiani Yudhoyono, First Lady of Indonesia, and attended by the Minister of Health and State Minister of Youth and Sports.

 



Some 11,000 free packs of Anlene UHT milk in TBA 200 ml cartons were distributed to all participants. A special booth featuring Tetra Pak and “protects what’s goodTM”, aseptic technology and the Tetra Pak Drink Milk Campaign. In addition, special recycling bins were provided to encourage participants to dispose of the used milk packs properly.

 


Tetra Pak Malaysia

Tetra Pak in Malaysia worked with the Malaysian Osteoporosis Society (MOS) on a large advertising campaign which focused on World Osteoporosis Day and risk factors. The campaign featured well known Malaysian personalities like Pei Lee, TV host; Harrison Job, celebrity fitness instructer; Shelly and family, TV host; and Hong Ju Khee, TV producer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Tetra Pak Sweden

World Osteoporosis Day at Tetra Pak in Lund, Sweden was celebrated early, on Friday, October 19th, at both company sites, Ruben Rausings gata and Bryggaregatan.

The employees received an e-mail the day before about Tetra Pak’s cooperation with
International Osteoporosis Foundation and a programme. Attached to the mail
were the strategy and the One-Minute-Risk-Test. All employees in Lund got a copy of
the local Tetra Pak staff magazine “Utsikt Lund” where they could read about the
coming event and an article about osteoporosis. Outside the lunch canteen, which served extra calcium and D-vitamin rich food, employees could take the One-Minute-Risk-Test to check their bone health.
Representatives from Occupational Health “Oasen” handed out information about osteoporosis. All employees received a cooler bag filled with calcium- and D-vitamin enriched dairy products in Tetra Pak packages. Finally, by answering a question about bone health, they could win a prize - a jump rope to strengthen your bones!


Tetra Pak Turkey

Tetra Pak in Turkey has carried out a media campaign that will run from September to December 2007.


The 'Drink Milk' campaign will promote the benefits of milk-consumption as an important aspect of osteoporosis prevention.

A TV advertisement is appearing in two channels (channel D & Star TV) and print ads have appeared in September and October in nine major national newspapers (including Hürriyet, Sabah, Milliyet etc.). The face of the campaign is Derya Baykal, a well-known TV host. Floor graphics to promote milk products and the osteoporosis prevention message have been placed in almost 500 supermarkets. In the supermarkets Migros and Tesco-Kipa there will also be radio and TV spots and, in November and December, Tetra Pak stands that will offer branded sampling, the risk test and osteoporosis information brochures to shoppers.
