Scientific Projects and Initiatives
IOF furthers professional awareness and promotes innovative research in osteoporosis through various projects and initiatives carried out under the auspices of the Committee of Scientific Advisors (CSA).
These include the CSA working groups and a growing number of training and education programs, awards for young investigators, as well as wide range of activities, many of which are described below:
- the publication of scientific journals – namely Osteoporosis International, the only international peer reviewed journal devoted specifically to osteoporosis; Progress in Osteoporosis, and Archives of Osteoporosis
- support for scientific meetings
- support for innovative research through the working groups of the Committee of Scientific Advisors which also publishes position and consensus statements
- IOF Orthopedic Initiative: Educational slide kit for orthopaedic surgeons
- Educational program for radiologists: Vertebral Fracture Teaching Program
- FRAX - information and slide kit
