Successful IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course held in Niska Banja

The IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course held in Niska Banja, Serbia and organized by the Serbian Osteoporosis Society was an enormous success. It attracted 230 participants of which 198 completed the certification exam. The participants, who came from Bosnia Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, were mostly physicians, but also included nurses and even a pharmacist.
All participants and the organizers were very enthusiastic about the speakers, Dr Marius Kraenzlin and Professor Heinrich Resch. Participants were unanimous in their approval of the course and considered it a very important contribution to knowledge on osteoporosis and its diagnosis for the whole region.

An influential international symposium on the treatment of osteoporosis held in Serbia
One of the most significant osteoporosis events in the Balkans was held at Niška Banja from May 18th till 20th 2006. It drew a great deal of interest from medical professionals in Serbia.
About 250 physicians from Serbia, Ex Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bosnian Federation and Serb Republic were present at the Symposium. The Institute Niška Banja and its Director Prof. Aleksandar Dimic; were the organizer and host of the Symposium. Invited speakers, who accepted the invitation to take part in the work of the Symposium belonged to the elite of the world s well known scientists in the field of osteoporosis as well as to high officials of IOF: Prof. Ghassan Maalouf (Lebanon), Prof. Istvan Marton (Hungary), Prof. Manuel Diaz Curiel (Spain), Prof. Salvatore Minisola (Italy), Prof. Zeki Karagulle (Turkey). The best experts from Serbia, also took part in the work of the Symposium, Prof. Vera Popovic;, Prof. Nada Pilipovic;Prof. Branka Kovavic;ev, Prof. Zoran Andjelkovic.
During the Symposium the course " Diagnostics of Osteoporosis" was held, according to the principles of continued medical education, and each prticipant of the course had a chance to measure bone mineral density of patients on the densitometer. Two of the most significant manufacturers of densitometry apparatuses, Lunar and Hologic, presented their DEXA machines and ultrasound apparatuses, where 80 participants of the school performed their practical training.
Three satelite Symposiums about the medications for the treatment of osteoporosis were also held. the Company Actavist (General sponsor), MSD and Roche.
Presented original works were of high quality on principles of medicine based on proofs.
Recently finished International Symposium at Niška Banja about the treatment of osteoporosis was held as the 5th in the tradition of 30 years of the Institute, in the interval of one year.
The Symposium was very well received, reflecting the good organization as well as well as the excellent cooperation of participants.

We organized manifestations with our stands in Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad. WOD posters were printed and placed on all stands.One minute millennium risk tests were distributed in all cities. Milk products and pharmacological calcium preparations were offered for free due to courtesy of our sponsors (Milk Company). Several medical teams were organized in all cities. Their task was to give medical advice concerning diagnostics and treatments of osteoporosis. During WOD signatures were collected for petition for reimbursement of bisphosphonates (in Yugoslavia these medications are not reimbursed). In Belgrade we organized the lottery in which 50 winners underwent ultrasound bone density measurement. After these events a short walk in the center of the three cities mentioned.
