IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course with densitometry certification in Mumbai
This workshop was conducted for the first time in India from October 6-6, 2009. It received excellent feedback from the delegates who found it a very informative learning experience and actively participated in the discussions. The international speakers, Drs Marius Kraenzlin and Klaus Glüer were joined by local speaker,
Of the 38 delegates registered for the workshop, 35 sat for the certification test. A majority of the delegates were endocrinologists or endocrinology medical students and there was also participation from rheumatologists, physicians in internal medicine, radiologists, and orthopedic surgeons.

World Osteoporosis Day essay competition for medical students
The ISBMR organized an essay competetion on osteoporosis with cash prizes varying from 250 US dollars to 100 US dollars in conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day. The competition was open to medical students (under graduates and interns) of four medical colleges in Delhi and covered the following subjects:-
-Prevalence
-Pathophysiology
-Socio-economic impact
-Drugs used in the management
-How to increase awareness and its consequences among health professionals in India.
The last date for submission is 30 Oct 2009 with winners to be announced a short time later at a special award ceremony.

The Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research wins award for "National Bone Health Quiz"

At the IOF World Wide Conference of Osteoporosis Patient Societies in Bangkok, Thailand on September 30, 2005, the Indian Society of Bone and Mineral Research was awarded an IOF-AMGEN Health Professionals Awareness Grant, valued at USD 10,000. The award-winning project, called “National Bone Health quiz,” aims to raise awareness of bone health and osteoporosis among medical students. The ISBMR is planning to conduct a ‘National Bone Health Quiz’ for undergraduates and internees in 40 medical colleges (some 26,300 students) in nine major Indian cities. The first two rounds will comprise a written quiz and will be conducted in the respective cities, while the final, oral round will be organized in New Delhi. All participants will receive educational material on bone health and osteoporosis. The final winners will be given attractive prizes and will receive sponsorship to attend an international meeting on osteoporosis.

ISBMR President receives award
The Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research was pleased to announce that their president, Dr Ambrish Mithal, has been declared “Doctor of the Year, -2005”. Official felicitations were extended by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs Shiela Dixit on 30th June 2005.

Ist National Conference of ISBMR. Symposium on Metabolic Bone Disorders. 10th November 2005, New Delhi
“Symposium on Metabolic Bone Disorders”, the title of the first Annual Conference of The Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Society was held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences on 10th November 2005. The symposium was supported and acknowledged by International Osteoporosis Foundation, Geneva, the leading world known organization, which is dedicated to fight against osteoporosis. This one-day event was attended by more than one hundred and fifty delegates, which included specialists from the field of endocrinology, gynecology and orthopedics.
