TV program to interview patients, doctors and VIPs on bone health
The VRA World Osteoporosis Day campaign focuses on media attention for osteoporosis. The highlight is a TV program on osteoporosis and featuring members from national osteoporosis patient clubs, doctors and VIP who will be interviewed about their personal actions to maintain healthy bones.

World Osteoporosis Day event in Hanoi draws more than 400 participants

The Vietnam Rheumatology Association has co-ordinated with the Hanoi Osteoporosis Association to organise a celebration event on World Osteoporosis Day (WOD), on the 20th of October, 2008.
Speakers and/or participants at the event included Professor, Ph.D. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan - General Secretary of Vietnam Rheumatology Association; Professor, Ph.D. Vu Thi Thanh Thuy - Representative of Vietnam Rheumatology Association in the International Osteoporosis Foundation; Mrs. Bui Thi Hiep - President of Hanoi Osteoporosis Patient Club; Members of the Central Committee of Vietnam Rheumatology Association; and the Executive Board of Hanoi Osteoporosis Patient Club. Some 400 members of the Hanoi Osteoporosis Patient Club participated at the event.
At the meeting, Professor Vu Thanh Thuy gave a speech on the essentials of the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the community.

Osteoporosis training session held in Hanoi

The Vietnam Rheumatology Association was the winner of an IOF-Novartis Strong Bones Academy grant which was awarded at the IOF Worldwide Osteoporosis Patient Conference held in December 2007. The grant enabled the Vietnam Rheumatology Association to successfully host a training session on May 16-18 in Hanoi. Some 30 doctors, along with a representative of the Ministry of Health, participated at the training session which focused on both development of the Association and scientific aspects.
Various training modules such as developing an organization, influencing decision-makers, fundraising techniques and opportunities, changing policy, communications and a scientific part on the challenges in the osteoporosis field for Vietnam and the region, were delivered by IOF officers.

Successful IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course held in Hanoi

On March 12 – 13, 2007, nearly 80 participants from different hospitals in Viet Nam attended the IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course, which took place in Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi. The course provided participants with the latest knowledge on osteoporosis and bone densitometry. This was the first time such an event was held in Viet Nam, and the participating doctors found the event to be of excellent value.
The Viet Nam Rheumatology Association is rateful for IOF’s kind support and collaboration in the course organization.
