Association 'Women without Osteoporosis' holds workshop at Bulmedica 2009
From May 12 to May 15, 2009, the specialized exposition BULMEDICA/BULDENTAL, the biggest medical and dental engineering exposition in the country, was held at the INTEREXPOCENTER in Sofia.
On May 13, 2009, a workshop on the theme “OSTEOPOROSIS – NEW POSSIBILITIES IN 2009” was carried out, organized by Association 'Women without Osteoporosis' as one of the satellite events of BULMEDIKA.
The workshop included two main panels:
Panel 1: “Osteoporosis – new possibilities in 2009”, with partnership of the Ministry of Health. Dr. Masha Gavrailova, coordinator of the National Program for Limitation of Osteoporosis in Bulgaria 2006 – 2010, presented a welcome speech. Invited representatives of the Centers on Osteoporosis from the whole country were in attendance.
Panel 2: “Assessment of the osteoporosis risks in the practice of general practitioners”, with partnership of the National Society of General Practitioners-NSOPLB in Bulgaria. Dr. Victoria Chobanova, member of the Board of NSOPLB, presented a welcome speech and that was the target group of this section.
The main purpose of the Association 'Women without Osteoporosis' in carrying out this workshop was to acquaint participants with the latest possibilities in the field of osteoporosis after coming in force of the Regulation by June 1 ‘2009 about reimbursement of the medications for diagnostics and treatment of osteoporosis, and to submit to the audience the new educational slide kit , launched by IOF to understanding the FRAX® tool for assessment of 10-year fracture risk.
Lecturers in both panels were Plamen Popivanov, M.D. and Natalia Temelkova, M.D., from UMBAL “Alexandrovska”. Assoc. Prof Atanass Slavchev, expert from the National Center of Radiology commented on the standards and requirements in respect of DEXA machines.
Representatives of ELPAC – a company for medical and specialized equipment, and BTL Co., participants in the exposition BULMEDICA, presented their articles used for diagnostics of osteoporosis.The workshop was carried out by sponsorship of the companies: BulgarReklama, Kendy and Thorn Spring.
