23rd IOF Advanced Training Course on Osteoporosis
Geneva, Switzerland, February 5 - 7, 2014
The 23rd IOF Advanced Training Course on Osteoporosis planned for February 5-7, 2014 has been indefinitely postponed. This has been a difficult decision for the Executive Committee of IOF to make.
The decision has only been reached after receiving feedback from many of our key constituents such as the CNS, CSA and CCA about such issues as; the timing of the meeting and the stringent travel bans for many CSA and for many pharma. EXCO re-assessed our position in light of the above and current registrations and decided that at this time the course is not a viable proposition.
The GTC has been a flagship course for IOF for 22 years now – offering high quality education in a family atmosphere and a unique opportunity for young clinicians to mingle with some of the leading KOLs from the field.
As such we are determined not to lose this important educational activity and are re-examining all possible future iterations of this quality course in the future, such as creating an on-line version. The course will also be available to CCA members and other interested groups as an in-house programme.
IOF continues its valued work in health professional education and training through the WCO, regional meetings and the joint IOF-ISCD course ‘Osteoporosis Essentials of Densitometry, Diagnosis and Management.

About the Course
The landmark CME-accredited course was held by IOF for 22 years, beginning in Lyon, France and held since 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Regularly attended by more than 200 participants from around the world and taught by a renowned international faculty, the course was a unique and highly valued training opportunity for a broad spectrum of health professionals. It offered a concise but comprehensive educational overview of the latest clinical information on osteoporosis. Designed to meet the information needs of both clinicians and allied health professionals, the highly-acclaimed course also helped train hundreds of industry representatives.
The course provided a comprehensive understanding of:
- the underlying physiology and epidemiology of the disease of osteoporosis
- the signs and symptoms of osteoporosis, and ability to identify them
- the current diagnostic methods available and how to implement them
- treatment options available for osteoporosis and the proper assessment of treatment options for the case in hand
- the interactions between bone and skeletal muscle
- related disorders such as osteoarthritis, sarcopenia and tumoral bone diseases
Due to continued need for concise, health professional training in osteoporosis, IOF will explore the possibility of holding the course as an online training opportunity.
IOF continues its valued work in health professional education and training through a variety of regional meetings and the joint IOF-ISCD course 'Osteoporosis Essentials of Densitometry, Diagnosis and Management'.
