Worldwide, one in three women and one in five men over the age of fifty are at risk of an osteoporotic fracture. In Europe alone, the annual cost of osteoporotic fractures is estimated to surpass €76 billion by 2050.
The International Osteoporosis Foundation is working to spread the message that much more must be done by governments and health insurers to promote prevention, early detection and accessibility to treatment for those in need.
IOF is active in driving policy initiatives that are helping to raise the priority accorded to osteoporosis and bone, muscle and joint disorders within health care systems. This includes the creation of National White Papers to help lobby governments.
