IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course, with Densitometry Certification
A two-day course offered in partnership with national or regional
osteoporosis societies
Osteoporosis is a serious, disabling disease which affects millions of people around the world. With the number of sufferers expected to increase rapidly, osteoporosis poses a significant challenge to all health care professionals. The International Osteoporosis Foundation promotes research and trains medical professionals so that they are better equipped to handle this growing “epidemic”.
In this context, IOF is pleased to announce that it is extending the reach of its training capacity by offering a course for physicians and other health professionals entitled IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course, with Densitometry Certification. The course is offered in partnership with national or regional osteoporosis societies.
The IOF Osteoporosis Diagnosis Course, with Densitometry Certification, covers the latest knowledge on the physiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and management of osteoporosis. The course will also offer modules that focus on the principles and practices of osteoporosis diagnostic techniques, and incorporates a certification examination for those participants who require this. The broad topics covered in the course include:
- Osteoporosis: the scope of the problem
- Pathophysiology of osteoporosis
- Clinical evaluation
- Overview of bone densitometry methods
- Radiation safety and quality control
- Diagnostic use of densitometry (2 lectures)
- Fracture risk assessment
- Recognizing and reporting vertebral fractures
- Monitoring skeletal changes
- Clinical management: prevention
- Clinical management: treatment
- Clinical case studies
The course is structured to run over two days and comprises 13 lectures of 45 minutes in length, including 5–10 minute discussions. Participants have the option of sitting the 2-hour certification exam at the end of the course. The exam is in the form of True/False and multiple choice questions.
