Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall takes part in the ‘Unbreakable Embrace’ for World Osteoporosis Day

In a show of support for osteoporosis patients around the globe, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, President of the UK's National Osteoporosis Society, was photographed with UK fracture patients on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day. The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) is the only UK wide charity dedicated to improving the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

The photograph contributes to the online ‘Unbreakable Embrace’, a symbolic global chain of support for the millions of people in all parts of the world who suffer from pain and disability due to fragility fractures. Her

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall is pictured here, at Clarence House, London, with people who have suffered fractures due to osteoporosis or brittle bone disease:  Hugh Macpherson (3 fractures: spine and ribs), Joanna Hawkes (2 fractures: ribs), Beverley Collins (1 fracture: leg) and Shona Mills who has brittle bone disease (3 fractures: arm and spine).

The Duchess of Cornwall, whose own mother died at age 72 as a result of the disease, has shown great commitment to the support of osteoporosis patients in the UK and around the world. As Patron and later President of the National Osteoporosis Society, she participated in IOF's first Women Leaders' Roundtable in Lisbon, Portugal in 2002.
