IOF Women Leaders Roundtable 2002

IOF Women Leaders Roundtable 2002The inaugural Women Leaders Roundtable (May 11, 2002) saw 12 prominent women leaders urge policymakers to end suffering and curb the economic burden caused by delaying osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment until after the first fracture.

Chaired by IOF patron Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, the Roundtable of International Women Leaders was held in Lisbon Portugal. The high profile event brought together dignitaries from across the world to highlight the need for broader access to diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, a debilitating and chronic disease affecting an estimated 200 million women worldwide.

The panel examined the plight of women at risk or suffering from osteoporosis, and signed a Call to Action (PDF, 72.8 KB) asking policymakers around the world to make diagnosis and treatment prior to the first fracture a public health priority.
