Ministry of Health official officially launches FRAX model in Sri Lanka

OSL and Ministry of Health will issue official circular to all health care institutions in the country to officially endorse the use of the FRAX tool.

The Sri Lankan FRAX® model was launched on March 15, 2012 in Cinnamon Lake Hotel in Colombo with the participation of nearly 60 leading physicians, endocrinologists, rheumatologist, and postgraduate trainees in Colombo and suburbs. Dr Palitha Maheepala, Additional Director of the Ministry of Health officially launched the model.

Following the launch, all participants attended a training session on the advantages and limitations of the FRAX model. The second training session will be held on 11 June 2012 in Galle in the Southern district and this will subsequently be extended to other provinces. The Osteoporosis Sociery of Sri Lanka (OSL) will also hold a joint FRAX training session in October 2012  together with the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka.

OSL is currently working with the Ministry of Health to get an official circular issued to all the health care institutions in the country to officially endorse the use of the FRAX Sri Lanka model to help make treatment decisions.
