Activties
Science/medical Organising congresses and scientific meetings on national and international scale. Undertaking the initiative to increase the level of knowledge in Poland by introducing standards on diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint diseases. Collaboration, in this field, with National Health Service, Ministry of Health and other medical societies. Expanding scientific knowledge on bone and joint diseases and their prevention. Representing views and opinions, scientific and organisational proposals on problems related to bone and joint diseases. Public awareness and education Polish Portal of Osteoporosis (PPO) PPO was set up in 2003 by Polish Osteoarthrology Society and Polish Foundation of Osteoporosis. Within 4 years it has become one of the most popular sources of information on osteoporosis in Poland. The aim of PPO is to distribute information on osteoporosis and other bone and joint diseases among doctors and persons interested. The Portal provides free articles, abstracts, translations of international publications and other educational and scientific materials related to osteoporosis and bone and joint diseases. The Portal consists of 500 diferrent publications. Every month, the users (4,000 adresses) receive an electronic biuletin with the most current information from Poland and abroad. The Portal provides a database that consists of 478 different drugs for treatment of osteoporosis with current prices (constantly updated). The users can also access the photogallery of the congresses held in years: 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. Currently the Portal has over 1,800 registered users and the number of visits per month equals 130,000. Educational Testing Programme Together with the editors of “Medycyna po Dyplomie” the Portal organises Educational Testing Programme “Osteoporosis” allowing doctors to gain educational points.
