One of IOF's primary aims is to spread the message that more needs to be done by national governments and health insurers to promote early detection and offer reimbursement of much needed therapy for those with osteoporosis. In this respect, IOF is active in lobbying and furthering international policy initiatives that will help raise the priority accorded to osteoporosis within healthcare systems around the world.
In this work, the Foundation collaborates with member national societies and other societies active in the field of osteoporosis to raise awareness among authorities, and to educate healthcare professionals and the general public. At the international level, IOF organises policy events such as Women Leaders Roundtables to call for governments worldwide to take action, and supports the development of national economic white papers. Policy initiatives concerning osteoporosis are also undertaken in cooperation with intergovernmental and nongovernmental organization partners.
