Hosted by Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, IOF Patron, the Roundtable of International Women Leaders was held on May 11, 2002 in Lisbon Portugal. This high profile event brought together dignitaries from across the world to call on policymakers to provide greater access to osteoporosis diagnosis and treatments.

The Roundtable on May 11, 2002. Attendees, by invitation-only, included some 50 journalists from around the world

Leading women joined forces for the first time to highlight the need for broader access to diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, a debilitating, chronic, progressive disease affecting or threatening an estimated 150 million women and men worldwide. While the IOF estimates that one out of three women, and one out of eight men will suffer from osteoporotic fractures in their lifetimes, most governments do not provide access to diagnosis or treatments.

HM Queen Rania of Jordan and other women leaders examined the plight of women at risk or suffering from osteoporosis, and signed a 'Call to Action' (PDF, 72.8 KB) asking policymakers around the world to make diagnosis and treatment prior to the first fracture a public health priority.
