EU policy report of 2006

Osteoporosis in the EU: Improving the Assessment of Fracture Risk

Highlights of the 4th meeting of the European Union Osteoporosis Consultation Panel, hosted by the European Parliament Osteoporosis Interest Group at the Bavarian Representation, Brussels, Belgium on 19 April, 2006.

This publication, released in September 2006, begins with a brief report of the 4th meeting of the European Union Osteoporosis Consultation Panel of April 2006.

The second section of the report, 'Improving the assessment of fracture risk: the WHO approach', provides a well-illustrated and succinct overview of an upcoming new initiative. The initiative hopes to improve the identification of patients who should receive osteoporosis treatment, based on a combination of fracture risk factors rather than DXA values alone.
