This report was issued on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day 2008 in support of bone health activism. It is a "call to action" to encourage health policy officials to improve healthcare and social policies to reduce the human and socio-economic burdent of osteoporosis all over the world.
The report presents recent socioeconomic data and advances in the prediction of fracture risk as well as examples of where successful campaigns have achieved significant changes in healthcare policy.
The message: osteoporosis must be prioritized and sufficiently recognized in healthcare policy. Each country or region needs to develop and implement its own strategy to address the problem of osteoporotic fractures.
