Theme & Objectives

As the leading conference in the field, the IOF World Congress
on Osteoporosis offers clinicians and scientists from around the
world an overview of the most recent developments and cutting-edge
research in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, prevention
and treatment of osteoporosis as well as policy-related issues
such as health economics. The Congress also represents a
unique opportunity for stimulating interaction, not just for
research specialists, but also for practitioners and other health
professionals who can profit from the exchange of information
provided in numerous Meet-The-Expert sessions.

Target Audience
The scope of the Congress covers all aspects of osteoporosis and
related bone diseases. Participants will include rheumatologists,
gynaecologists, endocrinologists, internal medicine specialists,
orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists, nurses, rehabilitation
professionals, public health personnel, epidemiologists,
pharmacists, and pharmaceutical industry representatives.

Plenary Sessions
There will be fourteen plenary lectures. Each session will be
dedicated to a single theme and will feature an invited speaker
along with oral communications selected from accepted
abstracts.

Meet-The-Expert Sessions

Each day from 11:15 to 14:30, specialists will lead exchanges
on 22 key topics. Small groups, on a first come first served basis,
will be encouraged to not only ask questions but to also provide
feedback about their own experiences. The topics discussed will be:

Orthopaedic Sessions
Two special sessions for orthopaedic surgeons will be held.

Poster Sessions
All submitted abstracts not scheduled for oral presentation will be eligible for poster presentation. Scheduled poster sessions will be held from Thursday December 4 to Saturday December 6th at the following times: 10:45-11:15, 12:15-13:30, 16:45-17:15

Satellite Symposia
There will be 8 Satellite Symposia, each focused on separate topics.

Opening Ceremony - Keynote Lecture
A keynote lecture by Professors John A. Kanis and Pierre D. Delmas will be held during the opening ceremony

 


Awards / Grants Information


IOF Young Investigator Travel Awards: A number of awards may be available to young investigators (up to 35 years old by December 3, 2008) for selected abstracts that have ranked exceptionally highly in the review process by members of the Scientific Program Committee. Applicants are asked to indicate their eligibility on the online abstract submission form. Only first authors who are also the presenting author of the abstract will be considered for this award.
The awards will only be presented at the Congress, at which all Award recipients will present their abstract. Travel Awards not picked up on-site will be forfeited.

Several award presentations will be made at the IOF World Congress on Osteoporosis in Bangkok during the morning plenary sessions from December 3 – 7, 2008. These include:

Welcome Cocktail

Wednesday December 3, 2008 – 19.30
To kick off the World Congress on Osteoporosis, all registrants and accompanying persons are invited to a Welcome Cocktail in the Congress venue on December 3, beginning at 19.30. Attendees will be treated to complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres while taking advantage of this opportunity
to mingle with colleagues and friends from the world over.
