Membership Criteria


  • The society/organization must have legal status and be registered as a not for profit organization; must permit national membership and have interest in musculoskeletal disorders.
  • The society/organization must be independent from commercial, political and religious organizations. It can be sponsored by commercial companies if their number is at least three and these companies are independent among themselves.


  • The society/organization must have an established governance structure; members of the society/organization must meet at least once a year.


  • The society/organization must develop either teaching/education activities in the field of osteoporosis and/or musculoskeletal disorders for the lay public, health/medical professions, and /or scientific activities, and/or should promote patient care.


  • Statements and opinions of members should reflect views grounded in credible science.

Membership is comprised of Full Committee Members and Health advocacy organization and Associate Committee Members. New applicants can enter in either of these category.

Membership Categories & Application Form

1-Full Committee Member:

   Full financial benefits*

  • Voting rights and eligibility to CNS chairmanship or other CNS global and/or regional elections
  • Annual fees: 600 CHF for high income countries or 300 CHF for non-high income countries (based on the World Bank classification)

*Full membership benefits are automatically lost and re-categorized under associate membership in case of non-payment of the annual membership fees

2-Associate Committee Member (for newly established organizations):

Status available for two years upon election of the society - after that period, society will be encouraged to upgrade to full membership.

  • No annual fees
  • Financial benefits limited to availability of free registrations at IOF Meetings.
  • No voting rights and no eligibility to run for any IOF election.

3-Health Advocacy Organization

  • Available to organizations which are not solely working in the framework of IOF, have no by-laws not-for-profit registered status (i.e hospital dpt; volunteers' club; community groups)
  • Financial benefits limited to availability of free registrations to IOF Meetings and Congresses
  • No voting rights and no eligibility to run for any IOF election
  • Annual fees of 100 CHF
