On March 18, 2009 participants of the ECCEO9-IOF Meeting in Athens were treated to a unique performance of a new “IOF Song[/link]”, written, composed and performed by Dr. Christian Günther of the German Center for Osteoporosis Prevention, Therapy and Rehabilitation, Fachklinik Johannesbad, Bad Füssing, Germany.

The IOF Song (see lyrics below) was created to heighten awareness of the major themes of osteoporosis prevention, with lyrics based on the IOF World Osteoporosis Day campaign themes of the past four years. Arranged by Gerard Fischer and musically accompanied by the Brass Ensemble of the world-famous Leipziger Gewandhausorchester (GWO), the song was performed by Dr. Günther for the first time in German on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day 2007. In his first English presentation at the Athens Congress, Dr. Günther introduced the song with the words of Ludwig von Beethoven “Music is something bigger than all wisdom and philosophy” and dedicated the song to the late Professors Herbert Fleisch and Pierre D. Delmas.

In addition to performing the song for the first time in English, Dr. Günther described his creative osteoporosis awareness and education concept, the “J.S. Bach Rule of Osteoporosis Prevention”. A music lover and talented musician, Dr. Günther was inspired to create the “Bach Rule” during a visit to the Bach memorial in Leipzig in 1992. He has since used the “Bach Rule” (B-for bone movement, A for alcohol reduction, C for calcium supplementation… etc) with much success in more than 1625 presentations, helping to increase public awareness in the German-speaking countries.

IOF thanks Dr. Günther for his wonderful performance, and his creative initiative in support IOF’s global efforts in fighting osteoporosis. View presentation in Athens on YouTube!

IOF Song Lyrics

2004 Osteoporosis in men
We all have one heart and many bones, but mostly we are not aware.
Hence, women pay attention to your bones, for they need a lot of care.
But also you men look after them, ‘cause quickly they can break like brittle stones.
We all can be affected by this disease
//: which increases the fragility of bones . ://

Refrain:
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to reach a preventive stage.
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to be the actor on this stage.

2005 Move it or lose it
Therefore my friend do move your bones and give them muscle power,
so your osteoblasts become active, Harold Frost gave us a scientific shower.
They only work, if you dope them with pikes of mechano-energy,
Due to this bones will get very strong –
//: what a wonder, not only for me. ://

Refrain:
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to reach a preventive stage.
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to be the actor on this stage.

2006 Bone Appétit
But the osteoblasts need a very good food for being satisfied,
therefore give them Calcium with Vitamin D and your bones will feel all right.
But in order to change your feeling in gut
you must alter first your thinking in your head,
Hence, take vegetables, milky drinks, seafood and cheese -
//:it’s delicious and therefore we like that. ://

Refrain:
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to reach a preventive stage.
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to be the actor on this stage.

2007 Beat the break
“Beat the break”- we will try and go hand in hand- the birds are singing this year.
“Know and reduce your osteoporosis risk” – this message is very clear.
And when you fall there are not only pains - you are suffering very long.
Hence, you must train your muscles and bones,
//: then you‘ll be standing upright very long.://

Refrain:
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to reach a preventive stage.
Invest in your bones from childhood to old age,
IOF will help you to be the actor on this stage.

2008 Stand tall – speak out for your bones
“Stand tall - and speak out for your bones” – we are singing all together
with proudly chest and loudly voice: “ We will beat each bad bone weather! “
This disease which affects millions of people no longer shall pull down us the knee, when we fight with power step by step
//: at the end we are yelling “VICTORY!”. ://
