New IOF position paper charts uptake of FRAX worldwide

Study finds that 2.39 million FRAX calculations were carried out in a one-year period from May 2012, with enormous variation in the worldwide usage. Highest uptake was in North America, most countries of Europe and the Antipodes; lowest in countries of Africa and South East Asia. The thousand-fold range in uptake reveals the large gap in provision of service in many countries.

The two-day course by IOF and ISCD, Osteoporosis: Essentials of Densitometry, Diagnosis and Management, is a popular new training opportunity. Using the Best Practice Framework, CTF has evaluated and recognized the achievements of the first 12 participating FLS. These are now showcased on the map with a gold, silver or bronze star, while remaining FLS participants are represented by a green star pending review.

Coordinators and partners of Europe’s largest healthy ageing trial met in Zurich on January 30th to provide an update on the Study’s progress and challenges. Recruitment target are being met, and efforts continue to recruit more ‘fallers’ versus ‘non-fallers’ and participants aged 85+.

February’s IOF Woman of Steel, Gal Lousky is changing the face of emergency disaster relief in the some of the hardest hit areas in the world. The 45 year old founder and manager of Israel Flying Aid (IFA), was nominated by the Israeli Foundation for Osteoporosis and Bone Diseases.
