Award honours Belgian researcher for services to the field of bone and mineral diseases

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster is awarded the prestigious Pierre Delmas Prize: An ESCEO-IOF-Servier Achievement Award.

The 2015 ESCEO-IOF Servier Pierre D. Delmas Prize was awarded today to Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, President of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), General Secretary Belgian Bone Club, and Chair of IOF’s Committee of National Societies.

Presented at the opening of the IOF-ESCEO World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases in Milan, Italy, the prestigious annual Prize honours an outstanding researcher who has made major scientific contributions to the study of bone and mineral diseases.

IOF President John A. Kanis stated,

I am pleased to present this award to Jean-Yves Reginster. With his significant research in the area of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and sarcopenia, he has advanced knowledge in the field. As co-founder of IOF and founder of ESCEO, he has also shown great dedication throughout a long and distinguished career to the advancement of clinical treatment, advocacy, and health professional education in musculoskeletal diseases.” 

Jean-Yves Reginster is President and Chairman, Department of Public Health Sciences of the University of Liège, Belgium; Director of Department and Professor of Epidemiology, Public Health and Health Economics, University of Liège; and Head of the Center for Investigation in Bone and Articular Cartilage Metabolism, University of Liège. He trained at the University of Liège (MD, PhD), and specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Liège), in Public Health (Nancy, France) and in Epidemiology (Ann Arbor, USA). He is President of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), and of the Group for the Respect of the Ethics and Excellence in Science (GREES). Prof. Reginster is the General Secretary of the Belgian Bone Club and serves on the Board of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and as Chair of the IOF Committee of National Societies. His specific research interests are in metabolic bone diseases, epidemiology, prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, pharmaco-epidemiology, public health and health economics, quality of life, and the methodology of clinical trials. Prof. Reginster is on the Editorial Board of numerous journals and has authored more than 800 scientific articles and 80 books or book chapters.

About the ESCEO-IOF Servier Pierre D. Delmas Prize
The Prize is named after the late Pierre Delmas, the eminent researcher and founding IOF President who was Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Lyon, France and Director of the INSERM research unit ‘Pathophysiology of Osteoporosis’. It has been awarded annually since 2010 with the support of Servier.
